Credit Union’s Member Match program benefits local nonprofits
Monroe Community Credit Union started the members game.
The new venture is a community giving program. New members of the credit union help choose beneficiaries.
Each quarter, the credit union presents three local nonprofit organizations. The credit union matches new members’ initial $5 deposit with a $5 donation to the nonprofit of their choice.
In six months, MCCU’s Member Match program generated $6,155 to support local nonprofits. MCCU will continue this charitable giving initiative through the end of 2022.
“During the first half of the year, MCCU members supported Gabby’s Grief Center, Monroe County Opportunity Program, The Oaks Village, Monroe County Court Appointed Special Advocates, Habitat for Humanity and Paula’s House. From July to September, new members will be able to choose from The Humane Society, Monroe Family YMCA and Soroptimist,” the credit union said.
“As a locally owned and operated business, we are always looking for new ways to support our community,” said Kate Hall, Vice President of Marketing and Community Relations at MCCU. “The positive impact these local nonprofits have on our community is immeasurable, and we wanted to create an easy way for our members to be directly involved in supporting their vital work. Additionally, Member Match has been for us a great way to educate and educate our new members about the organizations we have worked with for decades.
“This gift from the Monroe Community Credit Union and its members is greatly appreciated,” said Kaye Lani Rafko-Wilson, Executive Director of Gabby’s Grief Center, “We are extremely grateful for this wonderful partnership and the generosity of so many people. The donation we received from MCCU was applied to our bereavement support programs and services, including individual/family bereavement support sessions, our first annual mass butterfly release (which had approximately 60 people in attendance) where butterflies were released in memory of loved ones; our bereavement camp for children/teens called Camp Fearless, and for our upcoming “Day at the Movies” family reunion to be held in late July.”
Pastor Heather Boone, chair of the board of The Oaks Village, said the donation to Oaks will help buy more food.
“We distribute between 50 and 75 boxes a week to those in need in the community. The funds donated by the Member Match program have helped us buy more food items like canned food, jelly, meat and bread,” Pastor Boone said.
