Brad Wheal joins Warwickshire on a short-term loan

Hampshire dressmaker Brad Wheal has joined Warwickshire on a one-game loan.
Wheal enters the defending county champions squad for their clash with Surrey, which begins on Monday.
The 25-year-old, born in Durban but representing Scotland, has already spent time on loan this season with Gloucestershire, with his red ball opportunities limited on the south coast by the form of the vaunted seam attack from Hampshire.
“To be able to bring a talented pacemaker like Brad into our attack is a real boost for the team ahead of our trip to The Kia Oval,” said Warwickshire Cricket Manager Paul Farbrace. “Our thanks go to Hampshire for allowing us to bring the deal to fruition.”
Wheal was key to Hampshire’s T20 Blast success, picking up 22 wickets along the way.

Warwickshire’s tailoring bowling stocks have been decimated this season; Liam Norwell, Chris Woakes and Olly Stone were all missing in last week’s loss to Kent.
Woakes hasn’t played a first-team game this season, while Stone – whose imminent exit for Nottinghamshire has already been announced – last played first-class cricket in 2021. Norwell, whose form in 2021 earned him a place in the England Lions over the winter, has only been fit for two red ball games this summer.
Only Olly Hannon-Dalby, who picked up 43 wickets in 10 matches, has been a regular wicket-taker this summer. The second most prolific tailor on the books for Warwickshire is Nathan McAndrew, who has won 16 games in six matches at 41.3 apiece.
